Ivan de las Heras

I am a PhD Candidate in Economics at Southern Methodist University (SMU). My research lies at the intersection of Environmental and Development Economics, studying how economic and political factors shape both environmental and social outcomes.

My recent work examines how the characteristics of local politicians influence deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon. My ongoing research studies the role of income shocks in the region, investigating their effect on land use and deforestation, and separately how they drive crime, with a particular emphasis on the role of inequality.
